Brendan Moylan, finals regular rode his way all the way to the win and also finds himself in poll position heading into round 9 at Burleigh Golf Club 11th September 2011. Moylan met QLD neighbor Shane Keys in Keys first RWLCA top 2. Keys fought a tough battle however it was Moylan that prevailed.
Open Men’s finals also saw some new faces with Long Drive newcomer Adam Jackson smashing his was all the way to the finals. Jackson has only been competing in RWLCA for a short time and the No 1 spot is where he is aiming for. South West Rocks put on glorious weather the Nor-west head wind did not help the competitors achieve their signature 300+ drives. However there was a few that managed to achieve it
With 5 consecutive wins under his belt, unfortunately Queensland’s Andrew ‘Toowoomba Tornado’ Brennen just could not measure up to Mark ‘Stretch’ Sanford. Sanford started his winning streak with the 4 bonus points for longest senior drive of the day, but was not going to leave it at that. Sanford won the 6 man playoff against Super Senior regular Peter Neve. SW Rocks Club Captain Buzz Light Year (Mark Bird) also left his mark on the senior division and claims 24 points but more importantly bragging rights amongst the SWR members.
Peter Neve continued to show his talent in the Super Senior division winning over Narrabris Peter Gregg. Neve won the super senior division with a drive of 255.5m which with a strong head with was a fantastic effort. Warren Page unfortunately not able to find the grid.
Legends division had the South West Rocks spectators on their feet cheering as the locals stepped in to try their luck. Grizzly Meere made it so close, but yet so far just 15.3m shy of 3rd place. Legends Top 3 went to Peter Gregg (1st – 244.7m), Kerry Devenish (2nd – 240.3m) and Lloyd James (3rd - 224.8m).
Mark Williamson continues to lead the way in the Amateur division winning his 3rd event. South West Rocks members Michael Preston and Daniel Field were 2 of many that were hot on Marks tail. Preston unfortunately could not find the 16.2m that he needed to claim the winning spot.
Amateur division also Liz Turner debut, Liz showed her competitors how it was done filling up the middle of the grid with a fantastic effort. Having only been recently introduced to golf just 4 weeks ago Liz will defiantly be one to watch.
A huge thank you goes to Troy Alford and his fantastic team at South West Rocks Country Club for allowing us to host Round 9 for them. We look forward to returning in 2012
