2011 Round 3 Results - Opens

Were we, weren't we, that was the question on everyone’s lips as the rain continued to fall and the grass continued to grow. Despite all efforts from Palm Meadows Golf Club to prepare the grid, it was Tasco that prevailed. Thanks to Tasco who have provided us with the Bushnell range finders we were able to mark the grid so that the show could go on.

This round saw a shake up in the points. Stephen Kennedy (2010 RWLCA Tour Winner), dominated the podium in 2010 and 2011 sees Stephen returning to this. Stephen met Jason Atkins (QLD) in the finals. Atkins returned this year after injury in the season break, but he showed his fellow competitors that this was not going to deter him from chasing hat No. 1 spot that everyone wants to claim. Third place getter Brendan Moylan showed that even with the conditions as they were that he still had what it took to make it in the top 3. Brendan longest drive of the day was 315.8m, 1 of only 3 open men to hit over 300 meters on the day. It was fantastic to see 2010 faces returning to battle it out for the 2011 season.

Senior division was where it was at. This was the first time that we had seen a top 6 shoot out in this division. The top 6 was made up of an array of players, from Senior championship winner Andrew Brennan to Legends RWLCA Record holder Kerry Devenish. The final came down to Andrew Brennan and Mark Sanford, Mark has clearly been training over the Christmas holidays however he just was not able to find those extra meters. This leaves Brennan undefeated on the Palm Meadows grid.

Peter Neve, Queensland local returned this year with a fantastic effort Peter not only qualified in the Top 6 of the Senior Division he also claimed a win in the super Senior Division with a measurement of 271.2 meters. Neve was introduced to Long Drive in 2010 and clearly has the bug.

Newly introduced Legends division had a new competitor step up. Brendan Gorman Super Senior regular debuted in the legends division and with a great measurement of 263 meters, just 2 meters in front of the 2011 RWLCA Legends record holder Kerry Devenish.

Amateur division really showed its diversity on the weekend. Mixing it up with baseball players, Juniors and our new RWLCA female record holder Brooke Willis. Matt Haslet (QLD) claimed his first Amateur win with a massive 35.2 meters in front of his rivals, Brad Hollis, Aaron Reed, Tristan Nichols and Brooke Willis.

The points are starting to add up and with every Round mixing up the top places it could be down to the Championship final before we know will be heading to Mesquite to fly the flag for Australia.
Our next round sees us at the Dubbo Golf Club as they welcome us and the players compete for a prize pool of $5000.
