Round 2 - Abbott dominates Ballarat

Simon Abbott (2010 RWLCA Senior Tour Campion) led the field at Ballarat this past weekend. But it was not only the Senior division he had in his sights.
In 2010 Abbott ventured into the Open field to test the waters on a number of occasions. But 2011 sees him leading both the Open and Senior division. Youngster Daniel Lee is fighting for the Number 1 spot in the Open division, stating that 2011 is 'his year'. Lee debuted to Long Drive at the 2010 round in Ballarat, surprising everyone with his 2nd place accomplishment. Lee is chasing Abbott with only 1 point separating them both.
The cooler air did not deter the big numbers with the top 6 Opens all managing drives over 340 meters. And it was not only the opens that smashed it out of the park.
Tour veteran Kerry Devenish crushed an effortless drive of 301 meters in the Legends division. This measurement is not only Kerry's personal best but also Legends RWLCA Longest drive record. The Legends division was introduced in 2011 opening up the competition to a specialized division for competitors 60 years and older.
Amateur division was dominated by locals, with Graham Hicks claiming his first win with a fantastic measurement of 295m, 14.5m in front of 2nd place Mark Ferguson. Darcy Anstis returned to the field again to better his 2010 attempt, and that he did taking out the No. 3 spot. Congratulations also go to Steve Eldon who won the Super Senior division with a measurement of 272.6m.
Ballarat also saw the steady flow of newcomers continue to the sport, showing that RE/MAX World Long Drive Championship Australia is a sport for everyone. Shane Keys entered the field at the 2010 RWLCA Final Championship weekend and since then has subtly shown the pro's that he too is one to watch out for. Shane is currently sitting in 5th position after two rounds, Shane will be in his element for round 3 when the RE/MAX World Long Drive Championship Australia embarks on QLD for the first time in 2011 at Palm Meadows Driving Range on 24th April 2011.
